Lake Winnibigoshish Offers World-Class Fishing

Covering more than 67,000 acres, Lake Winnie is the fifth largest lake in Minnesota. Created when the Lake Winnie Dam was built on the Mississippi River in 1884 it is widely recognized as one of the state's premier fisheries - especially for walleye. Eventually, two more lakes were created as well - Cut Foot Sioux and Little Winnie. Since the Mississippi River channel runs through the middle of Lake Winnibigoshish anglers have access to three lakes and the river!

Lake Winnie has an average depth of 15 feet and a maximum depth of 78 feet. It is surrounded by 141 miles of largely undeveloped shoreline. While the lake is well-known for great walleye fishing anglers can also expect to find big northern pike, jumbo perch, huge sunfish and unbelievable largemouth bass

Lake Winnie is also host to a walleye fish hatchery. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources encourages people to visit the hatchery and witness their work first-hand. Call (218) 327-4430 to schedule a tour.
